Index   Ford introduced a new transmission in 2003. They introduced the 5R110W also known as the "TorqShift". The new transmission is a 5 speed transmission with 6 forward gear ratios, it skips 5th in cold mode. The final drive ratio is .71/1, 5th gear is 1/1 engine to driveline. Third gear previously had a 1/ 1 engine to driveline ratio in modern 4 speed transmissions, so although the 5R110W delivers 6 forward gear ratios only one of them is overdive(OD)

The new unit appears to me to be an improvement over past attempts. The TorqShifts valve body no longer uses valves, only solenoids, this allows the vehicle PCM to operate and monitor the transmission on command.

The 5R110w is available behind V10 6.8L, V8 6.0 Diesel, V8 6.4L, V8 5.4L, V8 7.3L Diesel

Beware has remote filter, allows 10 percent of fluid to not be cooled.
