Index The 4L65E was introduced to be a heavier version of a 4L60E. The difference being 5 pinion planetary gear sets. The Transmission is still a four speed electronically controlled transmission with the same basic concepts, and parts; other than the planetary gear sets. The 4L65E does include a bearing instead of a thrust washer between the sunshell and top planet, but this improvement is showcased in later model 4L60E transmissions. The 3rd and 4th gear clutches have not been improved so I doubt actual hauling capacity has been increased.
The 4L70E transmission is the same as a 4L60e other than a speed sensor located in the pump. This transmission uses the name designation to signify it is stronger than a 4L60 or 65, but in reality this is not true. Even if shifting more efficiently due to improved input to the vehicle PCM could help, it wouldn't give more beef to the clutch packs, and this is where the damage is caused by weight overload. So basically don't expect anything more than what a Chevy always delivered in OD. Index

The 4L70E transmission came out in the 2007 Silverado.
